Seat Belt Cover Tutorial and Giveaway!!

One of my sweet Twitter friends, The Brassy Apple, has the best blog! She is doing these summer challenges and I just HAD to join in on this one! I've been wanting to make my kids some seat belt covers for some time. They are always complaining about the belts rubbing their necks. Heck, I even complain about it rubbing mine! I will be making myself one soon ;) So for this challenge, I decided to show you how I made mine. Please use this tutorial for personal use only. Thank you!

This tutorial will make 1 8X10 seat belt cover. This size is perfect for small children.

Supplies Needed...
2 8X10 fabric pieces
1 8X10 Fusible Fleece interfacing
Bias tape
Velcro
Thread, scissors, pins

STEP 1...
Cut 2 8X10 pieces of fabric and 1 8X10 piece of fleece interfacing.
Layer them, fabric right side up, fleece, fabric right side down. See
image A for example.

STEP 2...
Iron all pieces together to fuse the fleece interfacing to the fabric. See image B for example.

STEP 3...
I like to quilt all pieces together to keep them together. This will make the cover hold together well for use. You can stitch your lines or pattern however you want. I like to do straight lines either vertical or horizontal for my designs. See image C for example.

STEP 4...
Now it's time to add your bias tape trip. If you look closely at image D, you can see that bias tape is made where the bottom side is a little wider. This works great for when you stitch it in place. It always catches the underside of the tape. Works perfectly!

STEP 4 continued...
Go ahead and pin your bias tape in place. I like to do mitered corners when I use bias tape. To see examples of how to apply it, go HERE. I didn't do mitered corners on this cover. I just added it to both sides and then added it to top and bottom.

STEP 4 continued...
When you get to the ends, you will want to tuck under a 1/2" or so of the bias tape. This just keeps the end from unraveling. See image F for an example of how I do this. Now you need to go ahead and stitch the bias tape in place. Make sure you use the same color top thread and bobbin thread.

STEP 5...

It's time to add your velcro. You can cut these pieces as big as you like them. Mine were 2.5". Measure where you want it placed and stitch it around the edges. Make sure the velcro matches up when the cover is folded before you stitch it in place. See image H for an example.

That's it! You're all done! Please email me with any questions!! I hope this was easy to understand :)

Sweet Pork Tacos with Cilantro Lime Slaw

If you like summer cooking, I HIGHLY suggest this yummy treat! I found this recipe on a blog and I'm so sorry that I can't give credit where it's due. I can't find it now. I made this for my family last night and they all LOVED it so much! Especially the delish slaw! This was mine and Pey's fav! Sooo good! This recipe calls for a large amount. I just halved it and it was perfect! I hope you enjoy!

Cilantro Lime Slaw
1 package Cole Slaw or whole shredded cabbage
1 c. Mayonnaise
1 c. Cilantro, chopped
1 tsp. minced Garlic
1/4 tsp. Cayenne Pepper or a dash of your favorite hot sauce
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. Lime Juice
1/2 tsp. Cumin

Combine all but slaw in a mini food processor or chop and combine yourself. Mix desired amount of dressing with slaw mix no more than 30 minutes before serving.
(I bought pre-packaged shredded slaw and red cabbage. I combined half and half of the desired amount for us....it worked perfectly!)

Roasted Sweet Pork
6 (approx) pounds Pork butt/shoulder
1 19 oz. can Red Enchilada Sauce
1 can Dr. Pepper (20 oz)
2 tsp. Chili Powder
1 tsp. Cumin
1 tsp. salt
1 Clove Garlic or 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
1 1/2 c. Brown Sugar
1/2 onion, chopped
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Combine all ingredients into your crockpot and cook on low overnight or until meat is tender.

Place the meat on a tortilla of choice, we used flour. Top it with some of the slaw. Fold in half and devour! Your tastebuds WILL thank you...trust me!

You're welcome :)

Water Slide FUN

We had a gorgeous hot day in OK yesterday. Brayden LOVES playing on his water slide! I must say this is the very BEST investment I've ever made! This is our 3rd summer with it and it's been a favorite of so many kids. Looking forward to another summer of sliding :)

Auction of the Day

I was honored to have the Auction of the Day on the This is Boutique blog :) Thanks so much Cree for the feature!

Summer days=Ice Cream days

My little guy seems to be the lover of all ice creams and popsicles! I can't seem to keep the freezer stocked enough for him. After a long hot day of playing in the sun he settled for a Peanut Butter w/Snickers ice cream cone. YUM! One of the great joys of summer!

Weekend...

I haven't posted in several days! I had a busy week and weekend. We had a much needed garage sale. The time it takes to mark things and set up is just not worth it sometimes. Peyton has some serious cheer expense coming up so the extra funds are going to be a BIG help ;) Of course all of this work has put me so far behind on my sewing! I will be living under the sewing machine in between hauling Peyton all over for cheer camp next week. Life never slows down!

I hope everyone had a productive and fun weekend!! Will be back to posting soon!

RT 66 Photo Shoot

I made this sweet outfit for an amazing customer! She's always so kind to let me
photograph the sets on Brayden! Helps me a TON! Appreciate you Andrea ;) Anyway, we
went to the old RT 66 bridge down the road for a photo shoot. This is such a gorgeous old bridge! The kids love going to it. I thought it was the perfect scene for this
CARS set!

Thanks for letting me share!

My Not So Biker Babe!

My beautiful little diva had a motor scooter wreck this weekend at my brother's house! This is WHY she is a cheerleader...she does not do well with other things..haa haa! You can see how swollen her eye is. She is black and blue all the way up and down her body! Poor kid! She thinks it's funny though! ;) Never have I seen someone so beat up look so gorgeous! Only you Miss Peyton!

Eating GREEN for 1 week!

I've decided to follow Brooke Burke and eat everything green this week! See her plan HERE. Peyton is doing it with me. I'm sure she'll cave faster than I will. This should be somewhat simple for me. I LOVE greens. I did have a broccoli pita last night so I already cheated a tad. Green grapes for breakfast. I'm not a big fruit eater so breakfast is tough for me. Looking forward to some split pea soup for lunch! This is suppose to give you ample energy! We shall see :)

My UP 3D Review

We've been waiting and waiting for this movie to come out! Paul and I took Brayden to see it this past weekend in 3D. It was Brayden's first 3D experience. Soooo FUN! He kept reaching for the screen trying to grab things! It was so funny!! He loved it!

I wanted to take a few minutes to share what we thought of the movie! It was really really cute! I loved it but I love all kids movies, lol! There are some parts early in the movie that I think might be confusing for kids. This isn't a big spoiler alert so I think it's ok to share this. Carl's wife can't have children. I heard kids in the theater asking their parents why she was crying. When moms told the kids I could hear them saying "WHY"? Kids just do not understand this stuff. Of course it totally went over Brayden's head. He did ask why she was crying though. Then she dies, again...some younger kids don't grasp this concept. I really wonder if Brayden understood what was going on. Regardless, if you ask him what his favorite movie is...he says UP! So we obviously loved it! Just a few little things that I mentioned above frustrated me. Not enough to keep me from ever seeing it again though!

I must mention that the 3D trailers of Ice Age 3 and Toy Story 3 were AMAZING!! Can't wait to see those!

School's Out!

Yep, school is FINALLY out for my kiddos! I think I'm as excited as they are! The whole routine thing was starting to wear me out! Brayden's last week was full of fun things! A lot of play time and a gorgeous week to be outside. His class has a picnic in the park and he loved it! Hard to believe my little guy will be in kindergarten next year!

This is what I decided to go with for the teacher gifts. You can never go wrong with plants or flowers. Brayden got to help pick out the pots and help plant the flowers. He was SO excited to take them to Mrs. Magnus and Mrs. Jenkins on the last day :) He was lucky enough to have two fabulous teachers this year and we will miss them dearly!

Check out these little beauties. They are flower pokes that we got at Dollar General. They are super cute!

Everyone, enjoy your kids this summer! I sure plan too :)

Twilight HOTNESS

Ok, so last night was the BIG night on MTV!! I waited so patiently to see
all of the Twilight boys in the crowd! HOW can 1 movie series have so much
hotness?! When it was time for the trailer I was on the edge of my seat!
I had chills the whole time and still do this morning! New Moon looks so
good and November can't get here fast enough for me!

Of course Twilight won most every award ;)
LOVE ME SOME Twilight!
